New Building Appeal - We're fundraising for a new home!

The Society’s Trustees are keen to continue to improve on our current offering by providing our existing and future members with more chances to gain new experiences, grow in confidence and be better equipped to deal with their day to day challenges. We want to provide a safe and secure environment in which to continue our support for local people that are affected by a wide range of learning disabilities.

We currently run 10 different projects offering over 150 adults and children, and their families, the same opportunities as their peers. Our individual clubs are held in many venues across Keynsham, Radstock and Bath, and with the future housing development plans of the local surrounding areas and the interest in providing additional services; we anticipate an increase in the demand for our provision. We have already seen our membership numbers increase in some of our clubs, making the necessity to seek alternative venues a greater priority.

To enable us to maintain our exceptional level of service it seems prudent that we obtain our own centre that can facilitate the need for further sessions for our members, our own hall space, office space and additional storage needs for our resources.

Over the past year we have set aside some funds and fund raised tirelessly, with additional fundraising initiatives and so far we have made great steps financially to achieving our goal; ‘To own a premises that will facilitate our existing projects and be suitable for expansion’. Our restricted fund has now reached £70k, however we still have some way to go in our desire to raise £250k by the end of 2019.

Once we have reached our target we will have enough funds behind us to, either adapt an existing building should it become available, or enable us to source the correct land/building in an area within Keynsham, central to our existing venues. To ensure we find the best solution for our existing needs, research is now being conducted to find either land for development or building for renovation.

Building on essential life skills, introducing more varied activities to our programme and increasing our support is in the forefront of everything we do. We enable our members to further develop the tools needed to become more self-sufficient and broaden their horizons. Thanks to the support they have received through our social clubs a number of our 18+ Club members now have the confidence to live independently in supported housing, work in employed or voluntary positions and enjoy meaningful relationships.

We're Celebrating

Saturday 16th June 1pm-6pm.

Great News! We are celebrating 40 years this year and we will be putting on a grand celebration event at the Keynsham Rugby Club. This is not a fundraiser it is purely a celebration of how far we have come and what we have achieved in our 40 years and it is an opportunity for us to say thank you to all our supporters past and present. There have been so many people over the years that have either given up their time to help our members, fund raised for us or have supported our fundraising efforts. We’ve got live music kids entertainment, BBQ and bar. Please save the date and help us celebrate!

We can't wait to get 2018 started!

2018 is shaping up to be a great year, we've got lots to lookforward to.

We're busy planning our events calendar for 2018 and it's going to be jam packed with great fundraising events including the old favourites, the family fun afternoon, sponsored walk, and annual quiz, (with new improved questions). We’ve got lots to celebrate this year too, and we will want to shout about it. Want to know more? As soon as details are finalised you will be the first to know.

In the meantime, we’ve got some great volunteering opportunities.

Do you know anyone who would like to kick start 2018 with a new challenge? Maybe they would like to give volunteering a go! At Keynsham Mencap we have many different vacancies available; working with children or adults for just a couple of hours a week, either on a week day evening or a Saturday morning. We’re also looking for volunteers that could come and support our residential holidays over the summer months. Our volunteers encourage our members to join in and take part in a wide range of fun, interesting and exciting activities. Anyone who is interested in volunteering is welcome along to a taster session to find out more before they commit. They will be made to feel really welcome and there’s plenty of help and guidance available. It’s also a huge amount of fun!

We're also searching for a star!

We would really like to secure a new business partner to support us in our fundraising quests and awareness campaigning, do you know an organisation who would like to join us as our new corporate sponsor?

Please get in touch with either or in the office, we 'd love to hear from you.

Thank you for making 2017 an awesome year!

We’ve had a busy 2017 with our fundraising and it’s been an awesome year we’ve beaten some of our targets and had fun doing it. We enjoyed hosting our first charity dinner and auction, we continued with the old favourites, the annual quiz (promise questions will be easier next year) sponsored walk and regular community events. We’ve been lucky that people have wanted to challenge themselves and run lots of miles to fund raise for us and that our younger volunteers have organised their own fundraising events in our honour. We received generous donations from individuals and businesses over the last 12 months which illustrates the huge support we have among our community.

Here’s the serious bit!! So we are completely self-funded and we need to raise over £160,000 each year to continue to operate as we do. Mainly we do this through grant applications, our fundraising events and the support of our community. This figure is only going to increase, as next year brings more exciting activities that will make our offering rock even more! So watch this space!

It’s reassuring to know we can count on you as we continue with our journey. You’re really helping to put Keynsham and District Mencap Society on the map.
